Progress measures in Reading, Writing and Mathematics are calculated as an average of individual pupils’ subject progress scores.  Pupils are assigned into groups based on their starting points (Key Stage 1 achievement).  The average Key Stage 2 score is then calculated for each prior attainment group.  Finally a pupil progress score is calculated by working out the difference between their actual KS2 outcome and the national average KS2 outcome for their prior attainment group.   This process is repeated for each subject.  (Further details can be found in Primary School accountability in 2016, pages 9-17).
