Progress measures in Reading, Writing and Mathematics are calculated as an average of individual pupils’ subject progress scores. Pupils are assigned into groups based on their starting points (Key Stage 1 achievement). The average Key Stage 2 score is then calculated for each prior attainment group. Finally a pupil progress score is calculated by working out the difference between their actual KS2 outcome and the National average Key Stage 2 outcome for their prior attainment group. This process is repeated for each subject. (Further details can be found in Primary School accountability in 2016, pages 9-17).
